San Miguel Corp Holds Public Scoping in Barangays Punao and Palampas
MARCH 18, 2022
Reliance Energy Development, Inc (REDI), a wholly owned subsidiary of San Miguel Corp. (SMC) conducted a public scoping last March 16 at Brgy. Punao Covered Court on the proposed 18.5 Billion 300-Megawatt Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) Combined Cycle Power Plant in Barangays Punao and Palampas.
Representatives of REDI-SMC and the Department of the Environment and Natural Resources- Environment Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) met with the locals to talk about its purpose, the processing of Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) application, project information among others.

Said project proposal has an estimated area of 49 hectares which will be located within the San Carlos Ecozone where other renewable energy plants such as bio-ethanol, biomass and two solar farms are located.
City Mayor Renato Y. Gustilo said that the city welcomes such development since it will provide job opportunities to the local residents and generate income for the city.
Gustilo emphasized that any power plant can invest in the city as long as it is not blacklisted by the national government since they know what type of power plants are safe and good for the city.
He added that the company had to undergo several procedures such as technical scoping and consultative meetings among others in order to continue with the project construction.
He also said that because of these big projects in the city he envisioned San Carlos City to be a powerhub in Visayas and Mindanao.
The construction phase of said LNG plant is set to begin on the 3rd quarter this year 2022 and targetted to be fully operational in 2024.
Vice Mayor Christopher Paul Carmona and Sangguniang Panlungsod Member Mark Cui together with members of the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office and City Environment Management Office were also present during the said event.
