MARCH 28, 2022
San Carlos City joined the annual global Earth Hour last night, March 26 to help save planet Earth from the devastating effect of climate change.
The City Environment Management Office (CEMO) facilitated a program at the Park Marina in Barangay 3 anchored on the theme: #connect2earth which kicked off thru a virtual confab on climate change with other participating communities around the globe with live band to entertain participants.

A ceremonial lights off countdown followed where improvised colorful lamps made of recyclable materials such as plastic bottles and LED lights lit the darkness simultaneous with the turning off of lights in the city’s landmarks such as the city hall, public plaza, park marina including the main streets.
A photography contest was also held at the onset of the event with organizers’ suggested themes include landmark photography, astro photography, light painting, candle lighting, acoustic jam session and camping.
“Every year we join the global Earth Hour because we care for our Mother Earth,” said San Carlos City Mayor Renato Y. Gustilo.
Gustilo added that people need to contribute to saving the planet from the devastating effects of climate change that’s why the city thru CEMO has been in constant move to find tangible ways to help save the planet.
Meanwhile , Engr.Loreto Sanchez, CENRO I said it is important for the city to join such event to raise awareness and help conserve energy where turning the lights off even just for an hour can minimize greenhouse gas emission.
San Carlos City was the Philippines’ One-Planet-City finalist last 2016 that led into recognizing the city as the 4th World’s Most Lovable City according to the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
