
RARE Philippines to Introduce Digitization To local Fisherfolks

A team composed of representatives from RARE Philippines and mobile wallet company GCash met San Carlos City Mayor Renato Y. Gustilo yesterday April 25.
RARE Philippines Senior Manager for Financial and Market Inclusion Flora Belinario with Director for Innovative Finance Cristopher Lomboy together with GCASH representatives headed by Jose Enrique Marfori Jr. discussed with Mayor Gustilo about the RARE’s on-going project in Sipaway island and empowering the fisherfolks.

Belinario said that one of their goals in said visit is not just to monitor the on-going project of RARE Philippines in the island of Sipaway but to also empower the fisherfolks, fish vendors and fisherfolks saving clubs through digitization with the partnership of a leading fintech company in the country, GCASH.
She said GCASH app will enable and help the fisherfolks to connect to other financial institutions through the use of technology.
Marfori Jr. of GCASH who is the Head of Ecosystem Development said that RARE Philippines and their company will visit Sipaway Island to introduce their products and services and to provide financial inclusions to fisherfolks and fish vendors in the island. He also said that a partnership with the local government unit might also be possible to create strong ties for both parties.
City Administrator Atty. Estefanio S. Libutan Jr., ITCSO head Engr. Joseph Binghay, CENRO1 Engr. Loreto C. Sanchez, CEMO-CRMD Conservation Fellow Melvin Maglayon were also present during the short meeting.
