Provincial Women’s Month Kicks off

Various representatives of the different municipalities and cities in Negros Occidental joined in the opening of the Provincial Women’s Month celebration thru an assembly yesterday, March 1, 2023, at Cadiz City Arena.
Anchored on the theme, WE for gender equality and inclusive society, SP Member and Committee Chair on Women and Family Victoriana Cabili and San Carlos City Children and Women’s Affairs, Inc. (SCCCAWAI) President Ma. Consuelo Janice Carmona headed the delegates of San Carlos City.

In the short program, resource persons Dionela Madrona, Provincial Council for Women (PCW) Adviser; SP Member and Committee on Women Celia Matea Flor of Bacolod City; and Cristina Basa-Orbecido, Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center (NOLITC) Vocational School Administrator discussed the Gender and Development (GAD) mandates and planning; Women, Peace, and Security; NOLITC and women empowerment and gender equality (WEGE).
On the other hand, Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose V. Lacson who was also present said Women’s Month celebration in the Philippines served as the venue to highlight women’s achievements and also talked about the emerging women empowerment and gender equality issues, concerns, challenges, and commitments.
Lacson also pronounced his utmost respect and admiration to the women’s rights movement, particularly the Negrense women, for their journey taken and victories secured, which is an outcome of decades of tireless, sometimes frustrating, and uncelebrated work.
He assured that his administration will continue to create measures and programs about the good practices for a well-defined gender and development and strengthen the Magna Carta of Women.
Atty. Andrea Lizares-Si, Chair of the Provincial Council for Women, also emphasized the significance of the participation of the women’s council in GAD planning and budgeting; encouraged the LGUs to hold forums and activities that can educate women, including the barangays to create offices that can directly assist women.
