Local Tourism Office Assembles Sipaway Island Tourism Stakeholders

The Tourism Office of San Carlos City assembled the Sipaway Island Tourism stakeholders yesterday, March 3 at Brgy. San Juan, Sipaway Island Covered Court.
At least 14 associations attended the said assembly.

City Tourism Consultant and Facilitator Joselito Ronquillo Costas said the assembly aimed at notifying the stakeholders on the importance and rationale of the Ecotourism Development Plan.
He also dicussed about the Tañon Strait Protected Seascape (TSPS), the issues and challenges in coastal resource management and Refugio Island Ecotourism and Sustainable Tourism Project which focuses on the project goals and strategies aimed at balancing the livelihood and conservation in the island.
He added Sipaway Island is one of the priority projects of the development plan making it a community-based ecotourism destination.
Filomina Temlor, 70-year-old resident of Purok Caimito, Brgy. San Juan and Caimito Marginal Fisherfolks Association member said she had learned a lot from Costas’ discussions, especially the ecotourism that focuses on livelihood and conservation in the island which will benefit both the residents and government.
Also present during the assembly were representatives of the City Environment Management Office, Philippine National Police, Bantay Dagat Task Force, City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, City Health Office, City Planning and Development Coordinator’s Office, Cooperative and Livelihood Development office, City Waterworks, Barangay officials of Brgy. San Juan and Brgy. Ermita of Sipaway Island.
