City Observes World Wildlife Day

The City Environment Management Office (CEMO) led the observance of World Wildlife Day thru an awareness symposium yesterday, Mar. 9, at Sipaway National High School Covered Court.
Representatives of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-CENRO) Cadiz City talked at the symposium attended by 80 junior and senior high school students of said school.
Resource persons Kim Malumay, DENR-CENRO Planning staff; Christopher Rey Atilano, Oscar Molas, and Maecarel Cañoneo, CEMO staff; and Vaughn Alintabo of SacaSol Inc. talked about the Wildlife Conservation and Protection Act of 2001 or RA 9147, Enforcing Total Protection and Conservation of Bird and Wildlife Sanctuary of San Carlos City Sipaway Island or the City Ordinance No. 18-11, the importance of seagrass ecosystem, clean energy for people and wildlife and plastic pollution and its impact to wildlife.
CENRO I Engr. Loreto Sanchez said the World Wildlife Day celebration anchored on the theme: Partnerships for Wildlife Conservation, aimed at raising awareness among the island residents of their role in the conservation process as the concerned ones since Sipaway is home to several wildlife species.

Atilano added that the symposium was held at Sipaway Island to educate the residents, especially students, on the importance of the city ordinance and other wildlife-related topics.
He also said awareness and dissemination campaigns will continue in the barangays and other schools on the island regarding City Ordinance No. 18-11.
Roland Alisoso, one of the participants and Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) President, thanked the CEMO for the symposium that enlightened him about the existing wildlife on Sipaway Island; continue to share with other people, especially the residents of Sipaway Island what he learned.
