PPA Convenes Councils in San Carlos

The Philippine Ports Authority held the meeting of the Port Management Advisory and Port Facility and Security Councils with various national agencies and stakeholders, at SCC Multipurpose Hall, Brgy. 3, yesterday, Mar. 17.
The said meeting is in line with the PPA Administrative Order No. 04-2006 Revised Guidelines on the Operation of the National Port Advisory Council (NPAC).
City Mayor Renato Y. Gustilo said he will put up a ‘one-stop-shop’ inside the port to provide comfort to passengers, especially during rainy season which PPA’s (Neg. Occ.) Acting Manager Engr. Lagmay agreed.

City Agriculture Veterinarian Dr. Jeff Reonal, on the other hand, presented the African Swine Fever information and the city’s action for its prevention and activities that the city took on as ASF-Free LGU.
Dr. Reonal added that the city asks for smooth coordination in preventing the entry of pork products in the city through seaports via Cebu and other neighboring islands.
The Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Plant Industry (Negros Occidental) OIC-Jenauh Job Jamili also shared a short presentation of its regulatory functions, especially on how to transport plants/plant products; informing passengers to secure Plant Quarantine Clearance before transporting their cargo.
Also during the meeting, the OPLAN Semana Santa preparations were discussed such as managing high influx of passengers and the security measures to be taken in coordination with the local PNP, Philippine Coast Guard and the PPA port police.
The council also discussed the ticket scalping or buying bulk tickets by some individuals and selling them at a higher cost to passengers during peak season.
The shipping lines addressed this by requiring individuals to submit IDs before purchasing tickets from their ticketing office.
The said meeting was attended by representatives of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, City Agriculturist Office, Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Plant Industry, PPA Port of San Carlos, Provincial Veterinary Office, Philippine National Police, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Bureau of Fire Protection, PNP-Highway Patrol Group, San Carlos Bioenergy Inc., Lite Ferries, EB Aznar Shipping Corp, Archipelago Philippine Ferries Corp. and Vallacar Transit Inc.
