BFP-San Carlos City holds First Inter-Barangay Fire Olympics
MARCH 23, 2023
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-San Carlos City held its first Inter-Barangay Fire Olympics this morning, March 23, at SJRI Field.
SP Member Mark E. Cui and City Fire Marshal Chief Inspector Rufino Tañedo Jr. led the event thru hose uncoupling, and Barangay Public Safety Officers (BPSO) of Barangays Ermita, 1, 6, and Rizal competed for hose throwing, bucket relay and busted hose/firefighting.

Barangay 1 was hailed champion, followed by Brgy. Ermita, 2nd place; and Brgy. 6, 3rd place; while Brgy. Rizal settled for the consolation prize.
Prizes include P5,000 for the champion, P3,000 for the 2nd place winner, P1,000 for the 3rd place, and P500 for the consolation prize.
Fire Chief Inspector Tañedo Jr. said the activity aimed at enhancing not just the skills and camaraderie of participants but also their learning which could be helpful in their respective barangay given that they are the first respondents during fire emergencies.
He also encouraged all barangays to prepare for the next Fire Olympics since they will make it an annual event.
SP Member Cui on the other hand, shared that BPSOs should be carrying batons and fire extinguishers during patrols, to quickly put out a fire in case an emergency occurs; he was able to implement it during his administration as Punong Barangay of Brgy. Palampas.
He urged the BFP and Philippine National Police (PNP) to hold contests other than this and inspect barangays to find out what other equipment they need.
Moreover, Punong Barangay Joselito T. Lopez of Brgy. 1, happily said their victory today proved the efforts poured in by the BPSOs and hopeful that the BFP-San Carlos will sustain the contest.
City Mayor Renato Y. Gustilo, Punong Barangays Herlanie C. Hisman of Rizal, Anthony Wee of Nataban, and BPSOs of Barangay 5 who were hailed as provincial champions and Most Outstanding Tanod Group in Cities Category in the Province of Negros Occidental last year also showed their support to the competition.
