
ASF Task Force Updates ASF Status

TextAfrican Swine Fever (ASF)Task Force conducted a meeting with ASF members today April 4 at the SP session Hall.
Resource Person Dr. Jeff Reonal, Veterinary Services Division Chief of the City Agriculture’s Office (CAO) said the meeting aimed at updating its members regarding the Status of ASF in Western and Central Visayas.




He also discussed the different activities in preventing ASF including ASF updates in the Phil., signs and symptoms, how it spread, Prevention and control, The three Pillars of Infectious Disease Control, Tools and Preventive Measures done by the San Carlos City LGU including the conduct of IEC/spread awareness, Boundary Inspection, Collection of Blood Samples of ASF testing, Seaport Quarantine/Inspection, ASF checkpoint & Inspection in Seaport, Seizure, and Disposal of Banned Pork Products from Cebu, Disposal at SCC Eco center, HOG Population Survey together with the barangay health workers and geotagging to identify the exact location of the infected animal.
Reonal added that it is necessary to update the members regarding the activities of ASF prevention to protect the city from imported pork products from Cebu and other parts that have been infected with ASF since San Carlos City is ASF free and is in the green zone in regards to the National ASF zoning.
Said task force is chaired and Co-chaired by the City Mayor and City Agriculturist.
The ASF task force performs the following: prohibits slaughtering in barangays; strengthing barangaycheckpointss to apprehend illegal shippers and penalize the violators; intensifies risk assessment, surveillance and monitoring; strengthens biosecurity implementation; enhances capability building and awareness campaign; strengthens LGU engagement and Assist in the recovery and repopulation projects.
Moreover, last March 28 San Carlos City received its certificate of free status on ASF from the Department of Agriculture Western Visayas and is in the Green Zone with regards to the National ASF zoning. Hog raisers from San Carlos City, with other proper clearances from BAI may now transport their hogs from San Carlos City to other provinces.
