MAY 14, 2023
The City Environment Management Office (CEMO) informed the members of 3 associations in Sipaway Island about City Ordinance 18-11, also known as Ordinance Enforcing Total Protection and Conservation of Birds and Wildlife Sanctuary on the Island.
At least 30 members of the Magsaysay Seahorse Fisherfolks Association and Caimito Marginal Fisherfolks Association attended the orientation yesterday, May 13.

Admin Aide Christopher Rey Atilano discussed the identified waterbirds and wildlife found on the island, especially the migratory birds sighted during the bird census conducted by the Philippine Biodiversity Conservation Foundation Inc.
He emphasized the protection of waterbirds and other wildlife as part of the ecological balance between inhabitants on the island.
Meanwhile, Environment Management Specialist Analou Gomo talked about the City Ordinance 18-11 and Republic Act No. 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act, and Marietta Lomocso, IEC Team Leader, facilitated the open forum and information-sharing.
Eleazar Caballero, Caimito Marginal Fisherfolk Association President, thanked CEMO for the additional information on the protection of animals, especially the waterbirds, and the forms of nature conservation and identification of birds.
The activity was part of the World Migratory Birds Day celebration and the Month of Ocean every May of the year.
