NAMRIA to set up GPS Station in San Carlos
MAY 17, 2023
The National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA) will set up an active geodetic station or permanent Global Positioning System (GPS) Station for the Philippine Active Geodetic Network (PAGeNet) in San Carlos City.

This was told by Engr. Abner A. Belmonte, Geophysicist II of NAMRIA, with Geleen S. Abanes, PDA III, during the group’s orientation on GPS to City Planning and Development Coordinator’s Office (CPDCO) staff and courtesy visit to City Administrator Atty. Estefanio Libutan Jr. yesterday, May 16.
Engr. Belmonte said the CPDO staff recommended three sites for the GPS Station, such as the Alternative Learning System (ALS), City Agriculture’s Office, and the Quarantine Facility Center, during their ocular inspection on May 11-15, 2023. However, the Quarantine Facility Center is more suitable among the three.
Belmonte said the GPS Station would provide more accurate and reliable information that San Carlos City can use in mapping, GIS, and other related activities. He added the station is one of NAMRIA’s ways of modernizing the Philippine Geodetic Reference System; trying to incorporate all new technologies to make coordinates or services more reliable.
He also said it would take 3-5 years to establish the GPS Station in the city after the MOA is signed since other local government units were ahead of San Carlos City. NAMRIA is an attached agency to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
