City Celebrates Month of the Ocean

MAY 20, 2023

The City Environment Management Office (CEMO) of the local government of San Carlos led in the celebration of the Month of the Ocean today, May 20.

Anchored on the theme, Planet Ocean: Tides are Changing, a clean-up drive was held in So. Magsaysay, Barangay San Juan, Sipaway Island.
At least 31 individuals, including 10 CEMO staff and 21 members of the Magsaysay Seahorse Fisherfolks Association (MaSeFA), participated in said activity.

Marietta Lomocso, CEMO IEC Team Leader, said they collected 30 sacks of garbage, mostly plastic bottles, glasses, fish nets, and plastic bags.

Christopher Rey Atilano, CEMO Forestry Division Staff, said they chose the area as suggested by MaSeFA, an association that actively helps in every environmental campaign of the city.

He added that the ocean is their source of food and income, which is why they need to take part in the clean-up drive; he hoped that people would also give importance to the ocean thru proper waste disposal.

Lomocso also said the MASeFA regularly conducts a monthly coastal clean-up and thanked the association and the constituents of So. Magsaysay for supporting the activity.
