The San Carlos City Agriculture Office (CAO) distributed 872 sacks of inorganic fertilizers to 442 farmer beneficiaries in five rural barangays in the city last January 27, 2016.

Said giving of fertilizers aimed at producing ample supply of rice for one cycle of high yield and inbred rice crop in preparation for the effects of the El Niño which started in 2015 and expected to last until May to June of 2016.

Ma. Nita Latoza, CAO Agricultural Center Chief II said that thru said fertilizers local farmers are expected to yield a harvest of five to six tons of hybrid rice per hectare and 4.5 tons of inbred rice per hectare.

Said program was also part of the Plant Now Pay Later scheme of the Department of Agriculture (DA) which is a loan assistance to farmers payable upon harvest time which cost farmer P7,600 per hectare for hybrid and P4,500 per hectare for inbred inputs.

Terms of payment for said program requires that 20 percent of the payment will be returned to DA while the 80 percent will go to legitimate farmers’ association to help raise their capital build up.

Farmer beneficiaries include those from Brgys. Bagonbon, Codcod, Nataban, Prosperidad and Quezon particularly members of the Codcod Agrarian Reform Community Coop (CARCC).
