A team from ‎Philippine Biodiversity Conservation Foundation, Inc. (PBCFI) led by Lisa Paguntalan, PBCI Executive Director visited San Carlos City for its Annual Waterbird Count (AWC) Jan. 14 to 15.
The group went to Barangay Guadalupe, and Barangays San Juan and Ermita in Sipaway Island assisted by the staff of the City Environment Management Office (CEMO) led by Marietta Lomocso, CEMO EIC-Team Leader.
The waterbird count aimed at monitoring the distribution and population of waterbirds and status of wetlands. It is also one of the important observation that tells whether the wetlands such as mangrove areas are still ecologically healthy and balanced.
The AWC is a yearly project of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO)-Negros Occidental and DENR-Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-CENRO)-Cadiz City.
The team paid a courtesy visit to San Carlos City Mayor Renato Y. Gustilo at the city hall before going to their main purpose.
