San Carlos City’s newly constructed 240-bed hospital located at Brgy. Palampas, about 700 meters from the city hall just had its blessing after the Holy Mass held at the façade of said facility, this morning.

City Mayor Gerardo P. Valmayor, Jr. said that the city government did not just build a bigger hospital but it also aimed at providing good medical practitioners and additional equipment for better medical care and treatment especially for the poor.

Valmayor said tentative target of operation of said new hospital is on Dec. 15, 2016.

He added that Dec. 8 as the opening date of said facility recalled the time the groundbreaking for said project started 5 years ago.

Dr. Archilles Ponferrada, Chief of Hospital thanked the city government for said biggest project for the city which totaled around P200M.

Ponferrada said that the new 240-bed city hospital will be more than enough to accommodate the numerous patients of the congested 50-bed old city hospital which at one time totaled 218 from the usual 160-180 maximum patients.

He cited that ambulatory patients will be transferred first at said new hospital.

Some of the city hospital’s patients do not only come from San Carlos City but also from nearby localities including the municipalities of Calatrava, Toboso, Vallehermoso and the cities of Canlaon, Escalante and Guihulngan in Negros Oriental, Ponferrada said.

Seated on a 1.9-hectare area, said medical facility is equipped with machines for CT Scan, Ultra-Sound, X-Ray (digital), piped-in oxygen, fire alarm sprinkler; supplied with rain catcher and waste water treatment; and, a full computerized system.

Dr. Ponferrada cited that said new hospital is also furnished with dialysis center that can accommodate 10 dialysis chairs, eye center, dental clinic with dental x-ray and new dental equipment, operating rooms (2 major & 2 minor), 12 private rooms and 12 semi-private rooms and wards.

He also said that three stations will be opened temporarily including station 1 for Ob- Gyne and surgical ward; station 2 for medical and pediatrics; and, station 3 for isolation ward and infectious ward.

Additional 15 nurses will also be appointed next year for regular position, Ponferrada said.

Arch. Hans Dela Victoria of the City Engineering Dep’t. on the other hand said that construction of the remaining two phases of said hospital project, the two-storey 4th phase and 5th phase is still on-going.

He added that in between phases 1 and 2 buildings, the TB Dots, gender sensitivity clinic and HIV clinic are also in placed.

Dela Victoria pointed out that 2 small buildings specifically for watchers will also be constructed at the right side of the main hospital building.

He cited that the two-storey building of said hospital also has a large elevator that fits a hospital bed.

Unlike the old city hospital, an ample parking space will be provided at the new medical facility while some areas left will be used for future expansion, Dela Victoria said.

Said blessing of the new city hospital today was led by Monsignor Eugene Peral of San Carlos Cathedral.
