PHILRICE distributes seeds to rice farmers

The Philippine Rice Research Institute (PHILRICE) thru the City Agriculture’s Office distributed RC216 variety of rice seeds to five barangays in San Carlos City held at Brgy Codcod covered court on June 2.

Six hundred sacks of rice seeds were handed out to the 300 verified beneficiaries of Brgys. Bagonbon, Nataban, Prosperidad, Quezon and Codcod who are listed in the Registry System for Basic Sector in Agriculture (RSBA).

Ma. Neca Dela Cruz , Rice Program Coordinator of the City Agriculture’s Office said beneficiaries should have less than three hectares of land to qualify for the program. She added that each hectare would have two sacks of seeds weighing 40 kilos.Sheena Dalumpines, RCEF provincial coordinator, said the city initially received 600 sacks from the total allocation of 5,000 sacks of rice seeds which budget was taken from the funds intended in the implementation of the Rice Tariffication Law to help farmers expand their rice production.City Agriculturist Deviit Dollosa urged farmers to register in order to avail said program of the national government.
