San Carlos City Observes Disaster Consciousness Month

San Carlos City thru its City Disaster Risk Reduction Management (CDRRM) Office held various activities in observance of Disaster Consciousness Month this July which kicked off with a motorcade around the city last July 11, 2016.

Local DRRM Officer IV Joe Recalex Alingasa, Jr. cited that part of said month long activities were preparations lined up in immediate response to any calamity particularly La Niña after the community experienced dry spell brought by the El Niño phenomenon. He said they provided trainings on Standard First Aide and Basic Life Support to different groups of students from different schools in the city especially on incidents of floods due to La Niña followed by a Rescuelympics later on.

On the other hand, Regional Director Dr. Blanche Gobenciong of the Office of Civil Defense, Negros Island Region visited the city last July 8 and met with City Mayor Gerardo P. Valmayor, Jr. to talk about the city’s preparations for any calamity.

The city government has already built several evacuation centers with amenities in barangays mostly affected by floods and landslides as well as improved its mobilization by providing CDRRMO rescue trucks and emergency vehicles.

Several rescue groups in the city also joined in said observance of Disaster Consciousness Month with the theme “Kahandaan at Pagtugon sa Sakuna, Tungkulin ng Bawat Isa.”
