The 1.9-hectare area for said medical facility is located at Sta. Ana, Brgy. Palampas, approximately 700 meters from the city hall. The first three phases of said building will be opened while the next two stages of construction are still on-going. Said new hospital is bigger and spacious compared to the old one which only has a capacity of a 50-bed facility.

Dr. Archilles Ponferrada, Chief of Hospital said that the present condition of the old hospital is no longer conducive in accommodating more patients since the number of patients admitted already reached a total of 218, who were mostly put at the hospital alleys for lack of rooms. He added that transferring to the new and bigger accommodation will be a big comfort to said patients.

Ponferrada said that they will start the operation of said new facility after the electricity and other essential installations will be finished before 2016 ends and plan to bring in soon additional services for ultra-sound, Computed Tomography or CT Scan and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).

He said some of the city hospital’s patients do not only come from San Carlos City but also  from nearby localities including the municipalities of Calatrava, Toboso, Vallehermoso and the cities of Canlaon, Escalante and Guihulngan.

Ponferrada added that the new city hospital needs the services of 27 doctors including specialists and surgeons, and presently it has only 22 doctors, so he expects additional physicians and nurses to be taken in next year.

Arch. Hans Christian Dela Victoria of the City Engineering Dep’t. on the other hand said that Phase I of said building consists of the administrative office, doctors’ offices, out-patient department, clinical laboratories, blood bank, pharmacy and emergency rooms while phase II of said building also consists of 2 operating rooms (major & minor), delivery room, nursery, central sterile supply room, and 3 OB wards.

Dela Victoria also said that the ground floor of the two-storey phase 3 of said hospital is made up of 2 surgical wards, intensive care unit, medical ward, pediatric ward, 2 isolation wards, 8 isolation rooms and an eye center while its second floor with elevator consists of 4 general wards and 12 semi-private rooms. In between phases 1 and 2 buildings, the TB Dots, gender sensitivity clinic and HIV clinic can also be located.

On the other hand, the two-storey fourth phase of said construction will house the canteen, staff dining and general kitchen and hemo-dialysis center while its 2nd floor will have the 12 private rooms and 2 wards.

Dela Victoria added that the fifth phase will consist of the generator room, laundry dep’t., oxygen manifold room, storage area and central water tank and morgue at a separate area but within the vicinity.
