City Observes Rabies Awareness Month
The City of San Carlos thru its City Agriculturist’sOffice (CAO) marks the month of March with various activities for its Rabies Awareness program launched, March 1, 2017.
The City Veterinarian Dr. Jeff Reonal said that his office schedules a medical mission offering free castration of dogs and cats, consultation, distribution of free vitamins, vaccination and de-worming among others which will start on March 15, 2017 ‘til the end of the month at 8:00 am to 4:00 in the afternoon.
Dr. Reonal said in 2015 to 2016, there was no rabies incidence recorded in the city because of its strong campaign including training of barangay tanods in dog catching and vaccination in relation to the city’s ordinance in catching stray dogs on the streets aside from the information education campaign in various schools.
The National Rabies Prevention and Control program has estimated that 300 to 600 Filipinos died of rabies disease every year.
The month of March has been considered as Rabies Awareness Month during Pres. Joseph Estrada’s time thru Executive Order No. 84 signed on March 13, 1999. This year’s observance carries the theme “Rabies Iwasan, Alaga’y Pabakunahan.”
