Another U12 Football Player Brings Pride to San Carlos City

Young players in San Carlos City continuously shine in the field of football as Rodrigo “Trez” P. Mariñas III, Grade 6, was the only one who made it among the four local Under 12 (U12) champs to participate in the China-ASEAN Youth Football Matches in Soong Ching Ling Cup in Qinghuangdao and Beijing, China on August 6-13, 2017.

The Negros Occidental Football Association (NOFA) has actually chosen four boys from San Carlos City U12 players last December 2016 to undergo trainings namely Jupiter Adi Juanillo, Elijah Zedric Ballesteros, MC Angelo Silva and Mariñas who plays mid-fielder but when the chance came to play in China only the latter passed with his complete open passport which is one of the essential requirements.

Trez’ mother May Janice Palencia-Mariñas said that she is not just proud of her son but also with the local boys who really played with passion and have shined among other players from big schools in Bacolod City.

She added that as a mother there’s no better way but to support her son’s chosen sport especially that he will be competing in China by attending to his needs including tedious practice every weekend in Bacolod City since February.

The NOFA is sending local football players to represent the Philippines at said event that aimed at strengthening the friendly ties between China and the ASEAN member nations including the Philippines where local champs have the opportunity of playing against football warriors of other ASEAN countries.

Said activity is also very timely with the ASEAN Landmark Lighting activity on August 8, 2017, one of the highlights of the Philippines’ Chairmanship of the ASEAN 2017 wherein San Carlos City was also one of the landmark cities of said event.
