San Carlos City Won Its 2nd Red Orchid Award

San Carlos City for the second time won the Red Orchid award last Nov. 22, 2017 at the Oriental Hotel in Tacloban City.

 San Carlos City passed the criteria set by the Department of Health for implementing a 100% Tobacco-Free Environment and following the World Health Organization’s “MPOWER” framework wherein the city garnered a total score of 91-100%.

 San Carlos City Health Office (CHO) Nurse III Juan Carlos Solidarios III said that the city’s success in its advocacy for a 100% Tobacco-Free Environment was due to its strict implementation of the local anti-smoking ordinance especially in the prohibition of smoking area anywhere in the city and penalizing violators including the funding by the city government for the information-education campaign of the CHO in the amount of P200,000.

 Solidarios added that said award also provided a cash prize of P100,000 to help sustain implemented programs handled by the anti-smoking task force composed of the law Enforcement Team.

 Said award was received by Sangguniang Panlungsod Member Dr. Jose Carlos Villarante, Chairman of the Committee on Health, Sanitation and Social Services and Dr. Arniel Laurence Portuguez, City Health Officer.

 Said award was also won by the city last year.
