San Carlos City Named ASEAN Clean Tourist City

After its stint as winner in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Environmentally Sustainable City Award and one of the ASEAN’s 50 Landmark Cities this year, San Carlos City once again emerged as recipient of the prestigious 1st ASEAN Clean Tourist City (ACTC) Award. 

Undersecretary Alma Rita Jimenez of the Tourism Regulations, Coordination and Resource Generation congratulated San Carlos City Mayor Gerardo P. Valmayor Jr. thru a letter which also informed that the awarding will be held during the ASEAN Tourism Forum at Shangri-la Hotel, Chiang Mai, Thailand on January 26, 2018.

Jimenez further stated that thru said award, she expects to hear more stories of San Carlos City’s success in the improvement and maintenance of its tourist attractions and contributions to sustainable development.

Marietta F. Lomocso, of San Carlos City Environment Management Office’ Administrative Support Division said that environmental and waste management are great factors that push for San Carlos City’s success since the city is well recognized on these aspects.

 Other indicators required in the ACTC Standard include cleanliness, awareness-building about environmental protection and cleanliness, green spaces, health safety and urban safety and security, and tourism infrastructure and facilities with which the city was thoroughly assessed by representatives from the Department of Tourism last Oct. 25-28, 2017.

 According to its website, The ACTC Standard aimed at providing the ASEAN member countries a tool that will improve the quality of tourism in their cities, increase marketing competitiveness, and livelihood to alleviate poverty among local residents as well as contributing to the protection and sustainability in responding to the impact of climate change.
