Representatives of the 18 Barangays of San Carlos City underwent various Children and Women’s Law orientation from July 16-17, at the DILG Conference Hall, Park Marina.

The event is in line with the observance of Blue Heart’s Day- Have a Heart for victims of Human Trafficking attended by Punong Barangays, Barangay Kagawads on Women, Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) Desk Officers, and children’s representatives.

Resource Speakers Social Welfare Officer II (SWO)-Focal Person on Women’s Lavern Rigor, SWO III- Focal Person on Children in Need of Special Protection Odessa Rigor, and SWO I- Focal Person on CAR and Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL) Feen Libre discussed various laws of R.A 9262 or the Anti-violence Against Women and their Children Act; RA 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act; RA 9344 or the Juvenile Justice Welfare Act of 2006 as amended to RA 10630; and RA 9208 or the Anti-trafficking in Persons Act of 2003 as amended to RA 10364 collectively known as the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act.

CPSU Campus Administrator Ken M. Balogo, MSIT, highlighted that this marks CPSU’s first project in distributing solar lamps.

Rigor stressed the importance of information dissemination on RA 9208 at the barangay level, where attendees are given 3 copies of flyers with context explaining laws for women and children, what to do with these cases, and where to report if cases occur; adding that the barangays will reproduce the flyers to distribute to their constituents, especially in far-flung areas.

Rigor added that the event also capacitated newly appointed officials to the protocols in handling such cases; hoped the Barangay officials would not stop implementing measures in informing their people on the significance of the laws that protect them, and encouraged them to not be afraid in reporting cases.

SP Chair on the Committee on Women Victoriana Cabili reminded the officials of their duties as public servants and thanked them for attending.

The City Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking and Violence Against Women and their Children (CIACAT-VAWC) facilitated the event.
