The city government of San Carlos thru its Tourism Office successfully held the annual tour guiding competition for elementary and secondary schools yesterday, Sept. 3 at City Mall Activity Area.
At least 12 public and private schools participated in the competition with a theme: “Tourism and Peace” for 2024 Tourism Month celebrations which featured the city’s destinations, cultures, history, and delicacies.
Winners in the elementary category include Tyresse Marley Tanuco of School of the Future as 1st place, Krae Anthiona Ejercito of Colegio de Sta. Rita as 2nd place and Hannah Faith Totica of Tandang Sora Elem. School, 3rd place.
For Junior High School, Amielle Apostol of Julio Ledesma NHS won 1st place, Marnyl Balateria of CSR in 2nd place, and Xian Immaculate Amit of CSTR in 3rd place.
Meanwhile, for the Senior High Category, Julian Mel Jarabe of JLNHS was 1st placer, Kent Michael Coyagbo of Tañon College as 2nd placer, and Francine Blanche Baguioro as 3rd placer.
Winners will receive certificates and cash prizes including P3,000 for the first prize, P2,000 for the second prize and P1,000 for the third prize, which will be given on Sept. 27 during the culmination.
City Tourism Operations Officer Jennifer S. Paran said despite not having a Provincial Tour Guiding contest this year, they continued the local event, so students become knowledgeable about the city, encouraging them to not just memorize the scripts but familiarize themselves with the city’s overview.
She also cited that residents must love the beauty of San Carlos City before any other places; she thanked the participants, coaches, and the schools for supporting the event.
Among the sights and culture presented include local delicacies, Sipaway Island, Pano-olan pottery, Magon-on Falls, Mayana Peak, Gui-ob Cave, Titing’s Café, Brgy. Codcod Terraces, Prosperidad Hills, San Carlos Borromeo Cathedral, People’s Park, Broce Ancestral House, Park Marina, San Carlos Boulevard, Pintaflores Festival, Pan Bisaya & Bukayo, and Habichuelas.
Judges of the contest include Tourism Operations Officer Paran, Heritage Culture and the Arts Focal Person Enrique Katalbas, and City Information Office News Writer/Reporter Janella Secong.
