The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 6, with the San Carlos City Social Welfare and Development Office personnel started distributing Walang Gutom Program food credit assistance to three barangays today, Jan. 14.
The Walang Gutom Program focuses on reducing involuntary hunger among low-income households by providing food credit assistance.
Beneficiaries receive P3,000 monthly through an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card, to purchase selected food commodities from eligible partner merchant stores.
At least 465 households from three barangays—Barangays Punao, Palampas, and Bagonbon were among the first recipients to receive assistance this month.
The commodities they purchased using their EBT cards were 25 kilos of rice, vegetables, fruits, one tray of eggs, and one kilo of dressed chicken.
Project Development Officer II Jomer C. Abrigoso, the Community Engagement Coordinator of DSWD-Region 6, confirmed that San Carlos City has 2,027 beneficiaries under the program.
These recipients were identified as food poor and non-members of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).
Barangay Kagawad Alejandro Delima Sr. of Barangay Punao on behalf of his constituents thanked DSWD for selecting their barangay as the beneficiary of the program.
Similarly, Juditha M. Ocan of Lower Tunga, Barangay Palampas, and Jordie C. Cernal of Barangay Bagonbon thanked the DSWD saying the food credit assistance will ease the burden of daily consumption for their families.
Project Development Officer II Roderic G. Nemenzo, Community Engagement Coordinator of DSW-Region 6, also assisted with the distribution.
