Members of the Lupon Tagapamayapa from the 18 barangays in the city underwent Katarungang Pambarangay (KP) training today, July 30, at SCC Multi-Purpose Hall Park Marina.

Local Government Operations Officer (LGOO) VII Evelyn Vista, Municipal LGOO Ildefonso Orquejo, Jr. and LGOO VI Julie Shayne Barreto-Tagalog are the resource speakers at the said training.

Topics of discussion include History, Concept and Purpose of Katarungang Pambarangay, Composition and Organizational Functions of Lupong Tagapamayapa and Pangkat ng Tagapagkasundo, Proper Venue and Jurisdiction of Cases Cognizant of KP, Mode of Settlement and Procedures, KP Process and KP Forms, Qualities of Mediator and Mediation Skills and Tools, and Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentive Awards.

Tagalog said the training aimed to enhance the effectiveness of Lupon members in their roles within the barangay justice system by equipping them with various techniques and strategies for resolving disputes in barangays before going to court and for maintaining peaceful community relations.

She also mentioned that this initiative is one of the requirements for complying with the Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangays (SGLGB); adding that training is necessary, especially for new members.

Liga ng mga Barangay President Alfredo Martin Cui looks forward to strengthening the duties and responsibilities of the barangay sectors, and promoting peace in the community.

On the other hand, participants were also oriented on the Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentive Awards (LTIA) and were given certificates for their participation. The Liga ng mga Barangay of San Carlos i n coordination with the DILG facilitated the said training.
