The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 6, thru the Risk Resiliency Program-Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Disaster Risk Reduction Cash for Work (RRP-CCAM DRR CFW) Program, targets to employ 1,040 individuals in San Carlos City.

The implementation of the said program was discussed during the consultative meeting among the representatives of DSWD Region 6, Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO)-Negros Occidental, and local government of San Carlos City today, Feb. 1, at the SP Session Hall.

The RRP-CCAM DRR Cash for Work is a program aimed at strengthening the resiliency, adaptive capacity, and responsive capabilities of poor, vulnerable, and marginalized families and communities from the impact of climate-related hazards and disaster risks through additional income support and ensuring food security through efficient construction and/or rehabilitation of reservoir infrastructures, and other natural assets that maximize the economic and environmental benefits of natural resources.

Project Development Officer II David Patilla Jr. of DSWD Region 6 said the agency funded the program at P9,360,000.00, where each beneficiary from the identified barangays is given 20 days (15 days work and 5 days training) with a P450.00/day salary.

He added beneficiaries should be 18-65 years old, farmers, fisherfolks, Indigenous People, individuals identified as poor by the CSWDO, living in climate and disaster-prone areas, who will work in the establishment of small farmers reservoirs (SFR), gardening, and rice, fish, and corn production.

Patilla said they have already identified three barangay beneficiaries in the city, but have to meet with the City Environment Management Office and barangay officials for additional data and finalization of recipients.

Meanwhile, the DSWD will implement the program in the 1st and 2nd quarters of 2024.

Present during the meeting were Marietta Lomocso and Marilou Talabero of the City Environment Management Office, Rouel Riantoco and Kurt Bryan Alegato of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Annabella Suan and Juanito Mendoza of the City Agriculture’s Office, Office of the Provincial Agriculturist-Negros Occidental Frank Adrian Villanueva and Hermie Jones Basilio, Environment Management Specialist ll Vanessa de Dios and Community Development Assistant l Meralet Padilla of the Provincial Environment Management Office, DSWD Region-6 Admin Aide l Fritz Curtez, and City Social Welfare and Development Office OIC Edena Dagondon and staff.

The group also paid courtesy to SP Member Benito Gustilo Jr., on behalf of San Carlos City Mayor Renato Y. Gustilo.
